It certifies a commitment to sustainability, continuous training, awareness, and teamwork for sustainable use of resources without compromising the quality levels that guests expect in a Five Diamond & Five Star hotel.
Gaining EarthCheck certification is a badge of honor for a hotel’s commitment to environmental and sustainable practices. NIZUC Resort & Spa achieved the Gold level certification by demonstrating our commitment to sustainability for five consecutive years per EarthCheck’s standards.
With over 25 years in the market and a presence in over 70 countries, EarthCheck is the world’s leading sustainable consulting and certification organization for the tourism and hospitality industry. EarthCheck collaborates with the private and public sectors, local governments, and federal ministries.
EarthCheck certification rewards various aspects of sustainability based on Key Performance Areas (KPAs), including:
- Greenhouse gas emissions.
- Energy efficiency, conservation, and management.
- Drinking water and stormwater resource management.
- Ecosystem conservation and management.

NIZUC RESORT & SPA’S COMMITMENTS TO SUSTAINABILITY INCLUDE:
• Separation of waste (organic & inorganic), including recyclable materials that can be collected and re-processed into other materials
• A wastewater and irrigation system that uses 100% recycled water
• Water that is heated 60% by solar energy
• The use of LED Light bulbs throughout the property
• Conscious chemical disposal (for oil, batteries, paint)
• Purchase of locally-sourced products such as sprouts, flowers, and honey
• Support and promotion Mexican Wine producers (Bodegas Santo Tomás)
• Monthly staff participation in clean up of our beaches
• Donation of hotel items in good condition to local communities in need
• The NIZUC/Brisas Foundation‘s participation in campaigns for collecting plastics/cans and raising funds for children with cancer

• Turn off the lights when you leave your suite’s bedroom and bathrooms.
• Please use the QR menu codes to reduce paper use in restaurants and bars.
• Try dishes that feature our local produce. Sustainable plant-based options are offered in all restaurants.
• Try local wines, which are available in all restaurants.
• Join our employee brigade on the “Beach Cleaning Day.”
• Support the Brisas Foundation, a non-governmental institution responsible for carrying out social actions for our employees and their families, such as delivery of school supplies, prescription lenses program, food bank for low-income areas, etc.
