Proposals

Sun-kissed skin, a warm ocean breeze, and an unforgettable sunset—it is easy for you to be in the mood for love at NIZUC. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that we’ve had many brides- and grooms-to-be ask us the how’s and when’s of proposing while staying at the resort.

One of our most beloved proposals included a treasure hunt, which had the bride-to-be following a set of clues that led her to the end of our La Punta Pier, where the couple dined. Once the sun went down, so did the champagne. During dessert, she enjoyed cake—and was overjoyed to discover a diamond ring hidden inside. The pair sealed the proposal with a kiss, lulled by the soft sounds of the ocean and our violinists.

Another proposal we loved was when a couple got engaged on the beach during a simple, but elegant, dinner for two. They’re now planning to celebrate their big day here at NIZUC.

Whatever your vision is, we’ll be there to help make your dream proposal come true. You name the time and place; our team is always on hand with champagne at the ready.

Perhaps we’re jumping the gun a little here, but… congratulations! Besos, NIZUC!

The History of the Site

As far back as 1800 BC, the Mayans lived on the Yucatan Peninsula. The first tribe to discover the area was the Itzae, meaning “initiated wise people” or “water wizards.” Still today, some of their settlements can be explored.

The most notable ruin close to NIZUC is El Rey, which dates back to 1250-1630 AD. The ocean-facing site still has the perimeters of the original buildings and plazas. Walking through the site, it’s hard not to imagine what they would’ve been like in their prime—bustling with people and animals.

In modern times, coconut farmers populated this area. Then, in the 1970s, President Gustavo Díaz Ordaz drew up plans to transform this area of Cancun into the awe-inspiring, world-renowned resort destination it is today.

NIZUC, located at the southern tip of Cancun, was the site of the Presidential Retreat. The area is extremely secluded. Standing on the shore, looking out to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, you’ll feel as though you’re completely alone.

Adding to this feeling of a personal escape are the surrounding mangroves—a protected ecosystem. An array of animals—from toucans and iguanas to turtles and countless species of fish—call this dynamic environment their home. The result is a totally unforgettable experience, one that is not only singular to the Caribbean, but to the Peninsula itself.

NIZUC Pet Program

While there’s nothing quite like the welcome you receive from your pup when you return from vacation, imagine how much more fun it would be if they could just come with you. At NIZUC, they can.

It’s only fitting, since Punta Nizuc in Mayan translates to “nose of the dog.” When developing our resort experience, it was essential we give special attention to man’s best friend, going above and beyond to make your pet’s vacation as relaxing and luxurious as yours.

Our culinary team has created a special menu just for the four-legged set, full of sophisticated options. Specialties include crunchy dog snacks made from whole-wheat flour, peanut butter, lactose-free milk, and honey; veal bone beef tartare; burrito with poultry sausage; and egg and cheese on a corn tortilla. We also serve healthy treats like celery and peanut butter.

When bringing your pet to NIZUC, you won’t have to worry about packing all of the supplies. Our overstuffed dog beds are so plush and luxurious, they rival their owners’ beds. We also have dedicated doggy dishes for all of their meals.

We know that traveling with dogs isn’t always easy—or, frequently, even allowed—so we have endeavored to create an experience the entire family can enjoy. We ask dog parents to be conscientious about looking after their pets, so everyone can enjoy their presence.  The way we see it, dogs bring a friendly, familial atmosphere we love, because at NIZUC, luxury is comfortable—never stuffy.

Paddleboarding & Yoga

Picture an endless ocean horizon, interrupted only by the occasional boat in the distance or a soaring bird. Envision an always spectacular sunset—one where the sun seemingly sinks into the sea. Imagine crystal clear still waters and a vibrant coral reef bustling below. Now, see the tip of your paddleboard slowly cutting through the water.

There are truly no better conditions for paddleboarding than at NIZUC. With water as smooth as glass, it’s the perfect locale for all levels of paddleboarders.

For those not too familiar with paddleboarding, don’t you worry! Here are some tips to get you acquainted—and once you’re out on the water, our instructors are here to assist.

  1. Start with the right supplies: a paddleboard, the paddle, and a personal floatation device.
  2. Take the board out to the shallows and stand alongside it.
  3. Place your paddle on the board and grab a hold of the rails.
  4. Pop yourself onto the board into a kneeling position.
  5. From that kneeling point, get a feel for the balance of the board, keeping both hands on either side to stabilize it.
  6. Once ready, stand up one foot at a time, placing your feet where your knees were. You may be a little shaky to begin with, but trust us, you’ll be up in no time.

And for our yogis, we offer beginner-friendly Stand-up Paddleboarding Yoga, so you can perfect your Downward Facing Dog while breathing in the freshest ocean air and soaking up the warm sun. Practicing on the water will not only improve your technique, but give you a unique peace of mind that leaves you feeling completely rejuvenated. Challenge yourself: knowing that stepping off the mat involves dipping into the ocean, a purely replenishing experience.
