Gazing across the beautiful natural landscape of Punta Nizuc, while the resort was designed with style and Modern Luxury in mind for every detail, the local environment’s influence is clear. NIZUC is a paradise that stands out for its seamless marriage of luxury, comfort and the spirit of its location. NIZUC fused Asian architectural forms with Mexican materials and Mayan iconography to create an intimate atmosphere even in expansive spaces. NIZUC’s long and low horizontality mimics the sandy coastline; tranquil reflecting pools highlight the glistening blue lagoon; and an earthy color palette of gray, brown, and off-white provides a subtle backdrop to lush green vegetation. Cool surfaces were combined – such as glass, slate, and granite – with minimalist lines and box-like forms to recall elements of Asian architecture. Yet, spaces still reflect warmth and character through the use of rustic, recycled, and indigenous materials. Going further to instill the resort with Mexican spirit, the designers worked closely with the Museo Nacional de Antropología to replicate Mayan hieroglyphs; by incorporating seventeenth-century stone door-frames, and a mural inspired by a sixteenth-century fresco from the Convento Agustino in the city of Malinalco. Within, every part of the NIZUC resort has the welcoming atmosphere of home. Find yourself among hand-knotted New Zealand wool rugs by Odabashian, mangrove-wood framed mirrors, and our striking collection of URBANA chairs and sofas, crafted from natural wood, that draw on the classic and familiar forms of mid-century modern furniture. You’ll want to extend your vacation another day, and then another.
